Predictions

All right fellow bloggers I will make a prediction that may seem obvious and not that significant but one that will have considerable impact on the way we work and communicate.
In the next 5 - 7 years we will move to a situation where mobile broadband will be at a flat rate and bandwidth will not be an issue. Devices like the iPod will proliferate, meaning that the processing power of a laptop will be avaialble in the palm of your hand, the mobile surfing experience will improve significantly.
What is the implication of this for applications and and the workforce?
I am also interested in hearing about your future predictions instead of saying "I told you so" ten years from now.

Catalyzing disruptive innovations is a preoccupying interest of mine too.
With so many sick industries, sick companies, sick business models, and saturated markets, I believe a healthy round of creative destruction is needed, if not inevitable. One vector for innovation is from the bottom-up. Not coincidently, then, I'm a "Base of the Pyramid" practitioner, a compelling new framework for innovating business ideas more appropriate for a developing world context. And not surprisingly, a collaborator was cheeky enough to dub me "an agent for positive social disruption, dancing Shiva-like, and smiling." So I guess I've been outted.

Got to be careful with Shiva though since associations with his creative powers are usually associated with the 'lingam'.

We will finally see the conversion of commnication, media and entertainment.
Triple play will be a reality in the next 5 years. HSDPA is already in trials in Italy, HSDPA/HSUPA are a reality and DVB-H is being trialled in Italy. Fixed and mobile broadband will also converge.
