Katie,
Very relevant post for the fast changing enterprise. In today's world where great corporate leaders, I mean really great leaders the type that inspire Papermasterish loyalty, are few and far between. Therefore this post is especially relevant in addressing two key aspects of great places to work: Leadership and Coporate Culture
Corporate culture is often inculcated by great leaders but must live on beyond the leader to be truly great and must survive changes to leadership. Top level changes often cause organizations to rethink their entire culture and mission, especially when the change concerns a leader who the entire company follows. I believe a truly great leader is one who firstly inspires fierce loyalty due to positive qualities, and secondly shapes an organization to flourish beyond himself/herself.
One aspect that is not included as a measure of a great organization is the aspect of fun/humour that you have alluded to in your post. An organization that has this key ingredient included in the potent mix of great leadership, solid corporate culture and genuine business model is like Asterix taking on the entire Gaul army.
