Iran: death to bloggers
belongs to Blogs ![]() by Steve Elmore on Jul 06, 2008 - 05:14 PM read 255 times |
Update: Iran has passed legislation that would make "establishing weblogs and sites promoting corruption, prostitution and apostasy (leaving Islam)" punishable by death. Those convicted may be be sentenced (with no possibility of commutation, suspension or change) to hanging, or amputation of the right hand and then the left foot as well as exile for "being a mohareb (enemy of God) and corrupt on the earth."
So now, in addition to a death sentence for being forced into prostitution, pre-marital sex, or being gay, blogs that the Iranian Judiciary deem offensive would potentially land the author at the end of a noose dangling from a construction crane in the public square.
Lovely.
