The beauty of this news item is that assaulting the horse was a 2nd degree felony and hitting the officer was a 3rd degree felony!

Woman accused of injuring police officer, horse in 6th Street scuffle

A 21-year-old Austin woman is being held at Travis County jail for striking a police officer and his horse, Dusty, with her shoe, injuring them both, according to an arrest affidavit.

The affidavit says Corsha Beasley was in a crowd police were trying to move out of the area near the Bayou Lounge, in the 500 block of E. 6th Street, where they were responding to a 911 call Sunday morning.

Police say that Beasley would not move out of the mounted officer’s way, and that Beasley started pushing the horse. According to the affidavit, Beasley took off her shoe and started “violently striking” Dusty the horse in the face right next to his left eye. As the officer reached down to stop Beasley from hitting the horse, according to the affidavit, Beasley struck the officer in the face with the same shoe.

A police spokeswoman said that the officer involved in the incident was not working today and could not comment on the incident.

Beasley has been charged with interference with police service animal, which is a second-degree felony, and assault on a peace officer, which is a third-degree felony.

She is being held in lieu of $30,000 bail.
