Social Networking Censorship?
by Brittany Creamer on Jun 08, 2008 - 07:52 PM read 236 times |
The Washington Post ran a short article last Wednesday about Facebook blocking ads from direct competitors like MySpace and Friendster, but not from companies like Microsoft, AOL, Google and Yahoo, among others. Most interestingly, Facebook blocks ads from Jam3, a start-up whose product allows users to "send and receive text messages for free while you are online, and then route them to your phone when you are offline)."
Why is Facebook prohibiting ads from a company that has a facebook application and is not a competing social networking site? Jam3 is a member of the Facebook community, so why are they not allowed to advertise? Who knows what else Facebook blocks??
