The Concours Institute, a member of BSG Alliance

The Concours Institute, a member of BSG Alliance—a center for research, writing, and consulting support on the cutting edge of HR and IT—was pleased to host Steve Guengerich and Susie Buehler on September 11. They visited our offices in a converted nineteenth-century brick mill building in Lowell, Massachusetts where some people from the The Institute, as well as BSG Concours, are based. We had great exchanges: we learned about some of the challenges and opportunities facing BSG Alliance in the near future and were able to describe some of our operations in detail. In addition, Susie suggested that we start a blog to help other people in the company get a better idea about what we do and where we’re headed. This is a great idea, I thought to myself, so I’m starting this blog.
What we do is a bit too varied to condense into a few entries. I hope that, over time and multiple entries, our operations will become clearer to readers. I’ll be adding something to the blog periodically, highlighting any accomplishments or discoveries that might be of note, along with any important events we host or attend.
This month we’ve had the opportunity to deliver some of our terrific customized executive education programs around the globe. We have had staff in Australia and India working with a client to train members of their HR staff in business skills, particularly in the area of finance. As HR departments become more tightly intertwined with developing strategy with CEOs, a high level of financial competence will become a requisite for human resources leaders. This kind of training is also crucial to making sure the HR leadership pipeline does not run dry when it comes time to fill a senior HR position. We’re pleased that our globe-trotting will continue on this particular assignment and look forward to introducing more of our clients to our customized executive education capabilities soon.
On a lighter note, I was thinking about the possibility of coming up with a name for the blog—something like The New York Times, but lighter with a more e-inflected tone. Here are a few ideas. All suggestions are welcome!
