Customer interaction...or not? by theJamesHamilton on Mar 31, 2008 - 12:32 PM read 1173 times

I stood in line yesterday at a self-service checkstand. As my turn approached, I noticed a cashier standing by her register with absolutely no customers! A question occured to me....was that Retail company to blame for the consumer's obvious preference ( "I'll do it myself because I can do it more accurately, with less hassle, and without added pressure techniques than that cashier" ) OR...are WE, the customers, to blame because we've "given up" on the pursuit of customer service excellence and choose technology and speed over human interaction?
To test my theory, ask yourself when was the last time YOU received excellent customer service, which is generally a "hidden" cost on your receipt. Now...when was the last time you received moderate to poor customer service? Which one of these scenarios was easier for you to recall?
Finally...how did you react to both scenarios? Complain to Management? Compliment the employee? Write a letter to the Company president? Let me know ~

Most buyers don't complain if they don't get the service they want/expect, they just switch and buy elsewhere.

by Trenice Simpson on Mar 31, 2008 - 02:01 PM read 64 timesThe last time I received excellent customer service was at Barney's New York at the Shu uemura cosmetic counter. I must say that when I did receive my receipt the cost was not "hidden" on my receipt. I was pleased at the service that I had received from the salesperson as well as the other staff members that were at the counter I thanked the salesperson as well as the other staff members for their excellent service.
In the past when I have received poor customer service I have complained and often decided not to use that company and or their services after the poor customer service experience.
Also, I agree with Steve about the excellent customer service that Amazon offers. I have received repeat great customer service from Amazon. So much so that Amazon is my vendor of choice to order books and DVD's.
