Hi Vaughan. Shhhh! Don’t write about this!
There is still enough market confusion and early adoption going on in the Enterprise 2.0 space that we need not start discussing, well, reality.
I blogged about this nearly one year to the day: http://susanitsa.wordpress.com/2007/02/28/mokita-the-truth-that-everyone-knows-but-no-one-talks-about/
The comments are worth reading too. The truth is, much of Enterprise 2.0 is taking place “under the radar” of IT for many of the reasons you mentioned. Where it’s headed is unclear at this point. Many enterprise 2.0 tools specifically promote the end-user ease of adoption (sans IT, btw). See this overview page at Central Desktop: http://www.centraldesktop.com/tour_overview. I am participating in one of our fabulous Research projects on “Redefining End-user Computing.” It is one of our most popular research projects with many F500 companies participating. Alas, the dialog is beginning!
