EIM/SFM Skillset Collaboration SITE ( ex-ICONIXX ) - Define!

Here's my 2 bits as to some definitions of what we want to do to make a successful Collaboration SITE.

RULE 1. We must strive to generate a sense of Team community, with a fun and comfortable, non-threatening feel.  The personality of our SITE should be a friendly one, where we can feel safe to express opinions and humor, let off steam, and cry out for help. Some day, a dream version of this SITE, Participants would be called "Players" and interactions on the SITE would have the look and feel of a Role Playing and/or SIMS village video game.

The following is a set of definitions for "entities" I came up with a few weeks ago, (in the Iconixx age) when I was imagining building a database to support a Collaboration SITE prototype and hold "Resources": (yes I am on the Bench with time to kill. :) )

These are kinds of stuff that for which we need to facilitate sharing and finding when needed.

  • Player Resources - A view should make it obvious who has what skills at what level, and who has participated and how, to encourage peer pressure to participate.
  • Skillset Area Resources - a table of Skillsets and an intersection entity tying to other Resources of every type.
  • Guides - "How To" and "How Done" White Paper Resources
  • Tools Of Your Skillset ("Toys") - Our Program Code Examples or Functional Tools
  • Blurb Updates On Your Skillset ("Buoys") - Quick and easy Relevant Informative Items and other educational materials (made relevant by peer ratings and reviews tied to skillsets).
  • Item Review/Rating - A Rating and an optional Review or Recommendation by a Team member of any Item on the SITE. A Review may be as simple as a short comment with a star rating or color flag tag, or a well presented critique and characterization of the item's value.  (need ref tables of rating and expression icons.)
  • WiKi Blog / Post - Skillset specific community Blog Items (and parent pages, etc.) and structured posting threads.
  • Fun, F.U.N. and Hmmm Item
  • Ref.Link Items - Skillset related Linked References to 3rd party Tools or other Resources. (Might include some actual zipped tools, or links to Iconixx ftp locations of such.) < This may just be part of "Toys" above >
  • Sandbox Sets - Data Dataset Examples, files of CS_table records for use in testing, etc.
  • Role (Player) Profile Preferences - To drive the page presentation of content. <?>

My favorite term above is "Toys", because I believe that truly creative and productive people are still children at heart, and they are more energized by that inner child when the tools they use are called "Toys" and make their day more fun, ideally turning work into play as much as possible.

The goal of this conversation is to debate and agree on a list of "conversation" to hold each of the kind of stuff we need to share, using attachments to posting, I believe. I am hoping for some help in how to do this, so here I am only proposing the WHAT WE NEED TO SHARE, not the how.

Please participate by attacking things in my list or proposing a whole new list or approach.

The Result of this conversation should be that we will then have a list of other conversations to start and how to use them for sharing Toys, etc.

(if I have time tomorrow, if no one participates, I might create an example of such a thread, just to try it out.)
