One of the topics that fascinates me is the design of organizations who can respond instantly. A few years ago I wrote a book with two coauthors, Raymond Yeh and George Kozmetsky, titled Zero Time: Providing Instant Customer Value –Everytime, All The Time! Wiley published this book. The basic concept of this book was to share ideas on how companies were re-inventing themselves so the could be instantly responsive. They could respond in’zero time’.

The book was before its time. The concepts we wrote about were trends we observed in very large, complex organizations and were implemented well before the Internet became a mainstay of all corporations. However, the concepts are very current for today’s companies, particularly those moving towards Enterprise 2.0. (a term coined by Professor Andrew McAfee of the Harvard Business School).

Zero Time Corporations are those that have 5 capabilities:

Instant Value Alignment

Instant Learning

Instant Adaptation

Instant Execution

Instant Involvement

This blog will explore these concepts in more depth, record examples of best practice, and generally create dialogue around designing and leading the next generation enterprise, those that have embraced Web 2.0 concepts, those that are moving towards enterprise 2.0…those that are learning to be Zero Time corporations.
