Susan Scrupski commented on my post yesterday that I needed to link more in my posts. Funnily enough, just as I was getting ready to leave for the airport this morning, I got a call from an excited friend who picked up a USA Today to find my photo on Page 2of the Lifestyle section. This was taken at a recent Rock ‘n Roll Fantasy Camp in Las Vegas.
I am reminded of the first time I went to a Rock camp and my band won the Battle of the Bands. I woke up the following morning to find myself on Good Morning America! I got calls and emails from a bunch of very surprised friends and colleagues (I used to keep my musical antics pretty much secret back then!) This picked up again a few months later when The Learning Channel aired a 2-hour documentary about the camp, repeated a few times since then. Again, a bunch of bemused clients and colleagues were surprised to find that a somewhat serious and sedate British gent had this rockin’ side!
I’m never quite sure if I need to keep this side secret, celebrate it, or defend it - so I try to balance all these positions. So, here I am celebrating my secret life. In my defence, I’ve learned a great deal about rapid forming, storming, norming and performing - rock bands are a team activity! I’ve also learned about work-life balance, and how investing energy into a hobby can refresh the mind and spirit in unimaginable ways! I’ve also discovered a suprisingly large social network of amateur musicians in BSG Alliance, and among my clients.

Wonderful to see your private (musical) side become more public and celebrated! Rock on, my friend. - Erik

As in most all things, you learn the most from what you are passionate about and anything you learn can be applied later in different surroundings. Besides, it is more fun introducing you as Vaughan the rock star rather than Vaughan the consultant.
